Have you ever felt like the list of things that you do just doesn’t seem to matter? Or, have you been stuck doing the same redundant things over and over again?
Over the last several months I have found that the list of things I do on a daily basis seem very redundant and somewhat meaningless. The truth is that those things can be meaningless if they are not connected to having an eternal impact. Some of the things on my list are minute and seem insignificant but when I look at the purpose behind them, it changes everything.
The book of Numbers takes us on a very long and excruciating journey of detail. It is actually known as “The Book of Murmurings” which makes sense by the time you get to Numbers 7, which is the second longest chapter in the Bible. At first glance you can see that it is very redundant, it seems like a waste of time to read and the temptation is just to skip it, but it is a beautiful reminder that anything we do for the Lord or anything we give on His behalf will be recorded and not forgotten. It is a beautiful list to God because those things were given in His name, which is why he did not simplify it.
He does not skip over or simplify the things we do in His name either. When we give and serve others in need the Lord delights in that, he records those things, and he will not forget those things that have an eternal impact for His Kingdom! Matthew 10:42 says that even if it is nothing more than giving a child a cup of cold water, you will be rewarded. Hebrews 6:10 says, “God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you’ve helped his people and continue to help them.”
So, in this season when we can’t go and serve and be the hands and feet of Jesus, be reminded of what 2 Thessalonians 3:13 says, “As for you brothers and sisters, do not grow weary in doing good.” When we find ourselves struggling or growing weary in the list of things we have to do, don’t ever forget that if you have been investing in eternity, God remembers, rewards, and delights in everything you do for Him.
