Nardine's Hope for Her Story | Key West, Florida

She pulled up in line for a bag of groceries but left with so much more. Recently resettled from her home in Haiti, Nardine was doing her best to navigate life in Key West for herself and her young daughter. Her English was broken, work was scarce, and community was non-existent. She’d heard there was a church giving away food on Thursdays, so with nowhere else to go for help, she pulled her car into line, hopeful this would help feed her family through the weekend.

Hearing her meek Creole greetings, a member of our Mission of Hope team asked if they could pray with her. She gathered her groceries, pulled her car off to the side, and couldn’t believe it when our team member started praying in her native language. Tears rolled down her face as Creole blessings covered her and her daughter, followed by an invitation for more. The Mission of Hope team was hosting a special Women’s Appreciation event just two days later, and before she pulled out of the church parking lot, Nardine was invited to attend.

Women from across the Keys gathered together to worship and be encouraged. Many had a similar story of relocating from their homes in the Caribbean, and as Nardine stood hand in hand with these faith-filled women, she experienced the community she had longed to find.

With hands in the air, Nardine knelt to receive powerful prayer from the women around her, and through joy-filled tears in her eyes, she spoke these words,

“I really needed this. I needed to be here today. This feels like it was just for me. Thank you, thank you, thank you! This has changed my life.”
