Nelson’s Message For You

School started again in Haiti last month, and the students were so excited to be back! But even with schools open, many families cannot afford to send their kids to school.

While the pandemic has disrupted education worldwide, the situation is especially acute in Haiti, where just an estimated two-thirds of adults can read and write.

For many, sending their kids to school is out of reach. According to a recent article from Reuters, four out of five schools in Haiti are private, and even those in public school do not have the money to buy shoes or basic supplies. “Maybe we can send them to school next year,” they say, but the risk is that parents might never be able to afford it.

Nelson Pierre Romano is 17 years old and lives in Cabaret. He is in the 12th grade at our School of Hope. “I am very glad to get back to school after spending five months at home because of the pandemic,” says Nelson“All that I wish is to see that I finish my school and go to the university as quickly as possible to learn something and have a job in order to help my parents.”

Nelson has hope when so many others do not. He has a path out of poverty and dreams for his future. There are hundreds of kids like Nelson who have hopes and dreams for their future, but their current realities do not make it possible.

For $35/month, you can help give a student an opportunity to regularly hear, see, and feel the gospel, receive a daily nutritious meal, and learn from a quality Christ-centered curriculum.

We are asking you, our Mission of Hope family, to commit to sponsoring a child this month. We are on a mission to make sure every single kid in Haiti can have hope like NelsonChild sponsorship truly changes lives, and you can be a part of that transformation.
