School started again in Haiti last month, and the students were so excited to be back! But even with schools open, many families cannot afford to send their kids to school.
While the pandemic has disrupted education worldwide, the situation is especially acute in Haiti, where just an estimated two-thirds of adults can read and write.
For many, sending their kids to school is out of reach. According to a recent article from Reuters, four out of five schools in Haiti are private, and even those in public school do not have the money to buy shoes or basic supplies. “Maybe we can send them to school next year,” they say, but the risk is that parents might never be able to afford it.
