Stories of Hope | Mobile Clinic and Women's Empowerment

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC | MOBILE MEDICAL CLINIC
Last month we shared the story of a small community in the Dominican Republic that Pastor Diony, who is also a doctor, was moved with compassion to serve. When we sent out that story, a HopeGo team was on their way to the community to set up a mobile medical clinic. This is where the story picks up.

Hearing the news that there was a medical team coming to serve people in her community, Viviana muscled up the courage to go to the mobile medical clinic for help. Nine months pregnant, alone, and due to give birth within the next couple of weeks, Viviana was nervous. The father of her baby was not in the picture. She had not once been seen by a doctor - nine months of no prenatal care. She didn’t even know if she was having a baby girl or a baby boy.

When checking her vitals, it was clear that Viviana’s blood pressure was very high. The medical professionals on our team were concerned about preeclampsia. They immediately knew that she needed to be seen by an OBGYN. Dr. Diony called his friend who is an OBGYN, and he agreed to see Viviana the very next morning. A church member of Diony’s volunteered to drive her to the appointment so she could get the care she needed. It was a powerful picture of the church gathering around a scared mom and walking through life with her.

Our medical team was able to check in on Viviana after her appointment, and they happened to have the exact medicine she had a prescription for. She also excitedly said that she found out the baby is a boy and that her due date was just two weeks away!

The anxieties and the health problems she was having started to subside, and her face brightened. She knew that God cared for her. She shared that she had given her life to Christ years ago, but she had not been living for Him. She chose right there at the mobile medical clinic to rededicate her life to Christ and raise her son to know and love Jesus, too. Praise God for the courageous woman that Viviana is! Please pray that God protects her and her son, and that they experience His provision each and every day.

HAITI & DOMINICAN REPUBLIC | WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT
The ladies in our Women’s Empowerment (WE) program are continuing to lead so well! We’re grateful to share that Klèb Manman (Moms Club) in Haiti, in the villages of Minoterie and Leveque, are doing great! Each of the local clubs had beautiful Christmas parties in their communities as they celebrated the hope that Jesus brings to them and their families. Our Minoterie club is now up to 132 moms and growing monthly, and the Leveque club kicked off at the end of last year with 47 women attending the very first meeting.

Our WE team in the Dominican Republic hosted a Woman’s Appreciation Day as part of the Hope For Her weekend, and this was the best community turn out we’ve ever had. Our team experienced God’s provision, kindness, and presence every step of the way. One of our local pastors in the mountains spent several hours cutting down trees that had fallen across the roads, blocking the ability to travel to the event. He did not want the women in his church to miss the opportunity to be ministered to.

142 women attended the event on Saturday and filled the room with Creole, Spanish, and English worship, and God moved in a remarkably powerful way. It was truly beautiful. We sure do love to see how God is working through the ministry of Women's Empowerment.
