Seeing God’s Purpose

Written By: Meghan Boyle, Mission Trip Participant

A few days before we were set to leave for Haiti, we received news that there had been some political unrest in Haiti. Our team began to wonder if we would still be going on our long-planned mission trip. Four days before the day of our departure, Mission of Hope offered us the opportunity to serve on a mission trip in the Dominican Republic. While we were sad to not go to Haiti for this trip, we knew God had planned this for our team and that His plan was good.

Throughout the week we were in the Dominican Republic, we watched as God provided divine connections to Mission of Hope through local pastors, ministry leaders, and opportunities to serve. We served in newly established kids’ clubs and literal trash dumps. We sat, walked, talked, and prayed with many people in their homes, church, and community. We shared our lives with the lovely Haitian and Dominican friends we now had.

The beauty and excitement of the Dominican Republic is outstanding, but so are its people. It is absolutely necessary to look beyond the resorts. Jesus is at work in the lives of so many, and yet there are many more lives in need of transformation, both physically and spiritually.

Throughout these opportunities, our team personally experienced what we know to be God’s purpose in sending us to the Dominican Republic. Faith that was weak was strengthened, and there has been recognition of the need for discipleship. Joy was experienced, and humility was gained in new ways as we experienced our own lives being transformed. Our lives are different and our outlooks changed because of this incredible week serving in the Dominican Republic.
