OUR STORY
Mission of Hope was founded in 1998 by Brad and Vanessa Johnson. Their vision was to build a mission that would help meet the physical and spiritual needs of the people of Haiti.
In 1996, Brad and Vanessa were serving in Haiti on a week-long mission trip where they watched an 18-month-old baby die as her father held her on their way to a clinic. They learned the baby had starved to death because the parents did not have enough food—they’d spent everything they had on a voodoo priest, hoping it would heal their baby girl. This moment was etched in Brad and Vanessa’s minds forever, and they could not escape the image of the grieving parents as they mourned the loss of their daughter.
Brad and Vanessa felt the call to make Haiti their home and change the nation for Christ. What started as a small mission located on a barren piece of land has grown to a multi-country organization with ministry now taking place in the Dominican Republic. Mission of Hope believes nations can be transformed one life at a time by focusing on four key areas: education, nutrition, medical care, and church advancement.

As an organization following Jesus Christ, Mission of Hope exists to bring life transformation to every man, woman, and child. With campuses in the Caribbean, we partner with local churches to transform lives through church advancement, education, and food security.
We accomplish this through our Core Resolutions:
- Connecting People to Jesus: Repeatedly sharing the Gospel message in targeted geographies.
- Empowering Local Leaders: Strategically developing national leaders to carry the vision to their nation.
- Serving People Holistically: Continuously striving to meet the physical, mental, social and spiritual needs of every man, woman, and child.
- Engaging People Relationally: Intentionally modeling Christ’s love through relationships.
- Stewarding with Excellence: Responsibly utilizing all resources and talents to their fullest potential for God’s glory.
