Candelaria's Story

Candelaria doesn’t have much, but every day she prays that God will keep her in good health so she can care for her 78 year old aunt, who is blind. Candelaria is 67 and lost her husband years ago. Aunt Juana is also a widow, so they do the best they can to care for each other.

They live together in a tiny home with dirt floors in a remote village in eastern Guatemala. Often their shelves are bare, and they lack basic necessities like food, water, and clothing. They are left alone to provide for themselves.

Through Mission of Hope, Candelaria and Juana are now experiencing joy as God provides for them and their needs. Every few months, our team travels to this remote community to care for the widows in the village. They offer prayer, laughter, and tight hugs over a nutritious lunch. Before they go, each woman is given an overflowing basket of groceries and household supplies.

As Aunt Juana received her basket, she praised God through her tears for the way He remembered her, saying, “I had felt so forgotten, but today I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for the ways God sees me.” As their physical needs were met, Juana and Candelaria were cared for in an even deeper way—they were reminded that they are seen, known, and deeply loved.

There are many more widows just like Candelaria and Juana who not only need groceries but also need to be reminded that God sees and loves them. You can help provide for widows by making a donation to Women’s Empowerment so more women can encounter God’s love. $50 provides necessary food & supplies to a widow for 2 months.

Yes, I want to help widows and women in need!

Thank you for your support of Women’s Empowerment. Together we can reach women with the life transforming love of Jesus Christ.
