Lourdesmiya’s Story | God Heard My Voice
We want to share the story of Lourdesmiya. Her story is one of hope, resilience, and faith.
My name is Lourdesmiya, and I am in the 8th grade. I have six siblings—three sisters and three brothers. The community I am from in Haiti does not have a lot of good opportunities, and there are a lot of problems with safety, violence, and more. When I was a little girl, I often dreamed about what my future would be like. Sending seven children to school is a lot for a family, and my parents could not afford it. I so badly wanted to go to school like some other kids I knew. I can remember my smile fading from bright to dull when I realized that my siblings and I would not get to go to school. My relationship with God developed and continued to grow during this time in my life. I began to trust Him. I knew that He heard my voice—He listened to my prayers. He had not abandoned me. Today, I am in school, and I have a sponsor! My prayers were answered. It’s sometimes hard to believe that I can share that I am in the 8th grade! Being in school is a dream come true. I know I still have a long way to go, but I am so glad to be where I am. I dream of becoming a nurse. I am so thankful to God and the people who support me.
