Stories of Hope | Jean Marc's Graduation

This month we remember all the seniors who are graduating, albeit without the traditional pomp and circumstance. Our Story of Hope focuses on a young man who grew up at our Village of Hope orphanage and whose life embodies truly holistic transformation.

JEAN MARC'S GRADUATION
It is with great pride that we announce that Jean Marc Devarier has officially graduated from Southwestern Christian University. Jean Marc has worked hard to overcome many difficult challenges in his life, but God has given him the grace, talent, and perseverance to succeed.

After his mom passed away in Haiti in 2006, he moved to Mission of Hope’s Village of Hope orphanage at our Titanyen campus and instantly became a leader among his peers. At 19, he was offered a scholarship to study at Southwestern Christian University and moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to pursue a degree in Biblical Studies.

He became more fluent in English as he worked through his college classes and joined college discipleship groups to share Jesus. For additional accountability and growth, he joined the SCU cheerleading squad, and they became the 2019 NCA National Champions!

Jean Marc also excelled in academics. The SCU faculty awarded him Mr. Southwestern 2020 for his scholarship, spirit, and service. He was also elected Homecoming King by his peers. If all that did not keep him busy enough, he also proposed to his girlfriend, Amanda, a former Mission of Hope intern, and they will be married in a few short months.

Even with all these amazing college experiences, Jean Marc’s heart has always been with his family and fellow Haitians. Last summer he returned to Haiti to coordinate sports camps and Vacation Bible Schools with his Village of Hope brothers, sisters, and friends.

Jean Marc is currently serving at a church in Indiana as a two year pastoral resident in preparation for returning to Haiti. Please continue to pray that God will use him mightily to further the Kingdom, both in the United States and in Haiti.
