Who doesn’t love a celebration? | Sonya's story continued

Sonya celebration

Did you know that Mother's Day is celebrated on various days in many parts of the world? As the majority of us celebrated Mother's Day a couple of weeks ago, our friends in Haiti and the Dominican Republic will celebrate and honor their mothers on May 29th. I have been especially blessed over the years because my kids have celebrated the fact that I am an American mom to Haitian children, so I get spoiled and celebrated twice, and I have no problem with that!

This month has been full of so many blessings for Women’s Empowerment and we are especially excited to update you on what is happening in Sonya’s life.

If you had the chance to read her story in March, you know the painful reality she is living in. She expressed to us how she felt unloved and alone in the fight to help support her family. She has been living in a structure that looks like it could collapse in the next storm, and this has been her life for the last 20 years. After seeing what we saw and knowing what we know, WE rallied and committed to pray for the Lord to provide for this precious family! I am overjoyed to tell you that before April was over, those prayers were answered! People gave generously, and Sonya’s dream of having a safe home to live in will be her new reality very soon!

The team in the DR could not wait for Mother’s Day to tell her, so they met her at her house this week with balloons, flowers, and a gift! She had no idea what was happening, but as she unwrapped the gift, Vena and the team explained to her that this is a brand new doorknob that will go on her brand new door to her new home! Praise the Lord!

Many of you do not know Sonya, but she wanted to express her gratitude to whoever had a part in praying or giving.

¡El tiempo de Dios es perfecto! = God’s timing is perfect! - Sonya

We definitely saw the hope in her, she looked more joyful and stronger! She knew the Lord was going to provide because He is faithful. It has been a desire of her heart for 26 years, and she’s been building her current home with pieces she’s been able to find, yet hopeful that one day she was going to have a home. Convicted me to be faithful with the small things and pieces in my own life. - Laura (Pictured above in the "Hope" hat)

Thank you for praying for this momma and all the mothers we know and love in the DR and Haiti!
