Dominican Republic COVID-19 Response

In the Dominican Republic, we’ve seen cases continue to climb and more protective measures continue to be put in place. As a result, many have lost jobs, and specifically for vulnerable communities, the ability to get food has become even more difficult.

Despite this, we have seen God continue to use the local churches, organizations, and government to come together to meet immediate needs. While Mission of Hope’s missionaries are currently stateside, God has also opened doors and shown us ways to resource and equip our pastor partners and serve the communities we love so dearly.

We have been able to disseminate educational materials in Spanish and Creole created by Mission of Hope medical staff that share how to stay healthy and respond during the spread of the virus. Together with all our partners in Santiago and on the north coast, we have been able to share the materials with over 300 people in various vulnerable communities in the Dominican Republic. We have seen the educational materials benefit so many!

The need for food has become an even more pressing need than before in the Dominican Republic. We have been able to meet with our partner pastors and other organizations to assess different communities and find ways to resource the church to provide food for families.

With a current goal of raising funds to help support over 2,000 families, our team is working hard to do what we can to meet those needs. Generous donors have already enabled 20 families to receive three weeks’ worth of groceries through the Dominican Republic Response Fund.
